CPL World Tour Jan 30th 2008 and Feb 27th-28th 2008

$340,000 Cash Prize Fund only at IGUK

UPDATE: WiC TOURNAMENT FINISHED Details below!

IGUK is proud to announce that it will host 2 major tournaments in the first quarter of 2008. IGUK have teamed up with The CPL UK and The CPL USA to run a UK qualifier for the CPL World Tour on 30th January 2008 and the CPL World Tour Final itself on 27th-28th February 2008. The Tour features two critically acclaimed titles from Sierra Entertainment:

F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon), originally released in the fall of 2005, was heralded by PC Gamer as the Best Action Game of the Year for its combination of stylized first-person action combat and supernatural suspense. The Finals will feature the Xbox 360 multiplayer edition introduced last year, giving players the opportunity to compete in paranormal frenetic multiplayer action that has become the signature of the F.E.A.R. franchise.
World in Conflict, which launched in September, is the next-generation of action strategy games. World in Conflict has received numerous editors choice awards from game critics worldwide. The game breaks new ground in multiplayer gameplay by being amongst the first strategy games to introducing player roles to its intense team-based combat. Showcasing the Windows PC version, the intense World War 3 title has been played all year on the CPL World Tour.

CPL World finals held at Gamerbase, one of IGUK's most prestigious centres.

Whoever you were supporting, one clear winner was pro gaming in the UK. It was a great accolade for the UK, and Gamerbase to be chosen as the host for the World Finals for this massive international event. The event has run smoothly and efficiently, thanks to IGUK's original tournament master, Biff, and the staff and world class faciities at Gamebase, London.

I mustn't neglect to mention the The Dell XPS CPL World Tour Final VIP Party, hosted in the CC club next door to Gamerbase. Everyone was there, the gamers, organisers, the admins, the journalists covering the event, the publisher and sponsor representatives from Sierra, Dell, and Razer, and, of cause, the gorgeous girls from Gamerbase and their friends. Everyone had a great time, but I think I can say the highlight was seeing the UK Beatboxing Champion Shlomo in action. Check him out on youtube, he's got quite an act.

Seedings to be advised shortly.

Two teams representing Lowestoft Gaming and Hunter Gaming, two IGUK cybercafes, will be attending as the 9th and 10th place. They will take 9th and 10th seed and take up the final 2 spots for this tournament.

Rules will be based on CPL Official Tour Rules, unless specified differently here.

Tournament System: Double Elimination

Mappool: Hometown, Farmland, Powerplant, Quarry, Seaside

Mapselection: Lower seeded teams removes a map, higher seeded team removes two, lower seeded team removes another one. Last map is played. Higher seeded team picks side for first round. Both sides being played.

If both teams win 100-0, the one who achieved it faster advances to next round.

Class selection: Each class has to be played once. The fifth player counts as "versatile" and can switch between any class.

The prize fund of $40,000 for this event is fixed, regardless of attendees, and is payable by CPL USA, subject to their standard terms and conditions for winners. Full details can be found here.

The UK Stop Final will take place at the largest IGUK gaming centre, Gamerbase, located in Piccadilly Circus in central London from 10am on Wednesday 30th January 2008.

Gamerbase, co-owned by Dominic Mulroy, has over 70 Dell XPS 720 Gaming Systems, with Intel Quad Core processors and 8800GTX graphics. 22" Widescreen monitors finish off this quite remarkable centre.
