HALO Rcon Guide
Halo Admin Guide

Unlike many other games, Halo for the PC does not require you to log in. In Counter-Strike for example you have to enter the port and password then you can execute commands at will. In Halo you have to enter the "rcon password" before every command you make.

e.g. rcon igukadmin sv_map_restart

When you join the server it is adviseable for the home team to check the rcon password is working ok. Open the console (press the key to the left of '1') and type rcon xxx sv_players, where you replace "xxx" with the rcon password that we provide to you. This should bring up a list of players on the server.

The first thing you will most likely want to do is change the server to the correct map. To do this you need to enter the following EXACT command:

rcon xxx sv_map mapname "iGames Ctf"

It is important that you add the "igames ctf" to the end of the command as that tells the server to run the map in capture the flag mode instead of slayer, king of the hill etc...It is also important that the map name is spelt correctly. So replace "mapname" with any of the following depending what map you want:

  • bloodgulch
  • gephyrophobia
  • sidewinder
  • timberland
  • infinity
  • hangemhigh
  • derelict
(have to type 'carousel' to get this map)
so typing "rcon xxx sv_map timberland "iGames Ctf"" will change the map to timberland.

Once all the players have joined the server you will want to restart the map. This is simply done by entering the following command:

rcon xxx sv_map_restart

Before doing this, please let everyone know the match will start after the restart by using the gamechat and saying "ON MAP RESTART, GAME IS LIVE!".

In the event that you have undesireable players on your server that you wish to remove use the following process:

Firstly, list the players by entering "rcon xxx sv_players"
Then remove the player by typing "rcon xxx sv_kick playerID" where "playerID" is replaced with the number next to the player that you wish to remove.

If this player still persists in rejoining the server then you will wish to ban the player, in which case you bring down the console and enter "rcon xxx sv_ban playerID" where PlayerID is replaced with the number of the player that you wish to remove.

If (and this should not happen) the wrong player has been accidently banned from the server and you wish to remove the ban, use "rcon xxx sv_banlist" to bring up the list of banned players. Then to remove the player from the list enter "rcon xxx sv_unban PlayerName" where "playerName" is replaced by the name of the player from the banlist.

  • Recap

rcon xxx - To be typed before every rcon command
rcon xxx sv_map mapname "iGames Ctf" - Changes Map
rcon xxx sv_map_restart - Restarts Map
rcon xxx sv_players - Lists player IDs

These should be all the commands you will need. If you experience any problems with any of the above then please contact Myers on the #i-gamesuk quakenet irc channel or by e-mail richard@iguk.org or phone (07763 831931).
