Microplay Closed Down
(1 comment: Threaded, Flat)
Im a fully paid up member of iguk but in the last few weeks my account and centre details were removed from private access meaning I need to say goodbye in Public.
I joined IGUK in 2004 with Dom helping me out and introducing me to my partners to form Microplay. Dom left a year or so ago to run gamerbase and then a few weeks ago out of the blue he rang me to say he's opening a gamerbase on my doorstep! I had bought out my other partners a year or two ago so I was a little worried about the prospect of having HMV as a competitor after taking on more debt.
I remember Dom saying in his goodbye post that he would do his best not to hurt existing owners during his expansion and I just wanted you all to know that he has stuck to that deal 100%.
Microplay closed down yesterday and HMV opened Gamerbase Glasgow today. I now work for HMV with Dom, based in Glasgow. Dom employed most of my team from MG to run gamerbase glasgow and also ensured that I had no personal liability from the MG closure (and I had quite a bit!). I know that he is planning on doing the same solution with at least one other iguk centre shortly, so I just wanted you all to know that if Dom does call out of the blue and give you bad news, it does have a silver lining if you are willing to take job security, a guaranteed wage and a games industry that actually supports you.
